Marijuana seeds fall into three distinct categories, each with its own traits and characteristics;
- Indica Marijuana Seeds – Indica Marijuana plants grew naturally in the mountainous regions of the Hindu Kush, developing a hardy nature to adapt to the short summers and reduced light hours. Coated in resin to attract male pollen, the plants remain short and squat with close, strong branches and a short flowering period.
- Sativa Marijuana Seeds – Sativa Marijuana plants grew in hot countries around the equator, enjoying long sunny days and a lengthy Summer. They grow tall, into a classic ‘Christmas tree’ shape, with long branches, running cola’s and very large harvests from their extended flowering period.
- Hybrid Marijuana Seeds – Hybrid Marijuana seeds are the most popular of all seeds. Containing varying amounts of both Indica and Sativa genes to produce a wide variety of plants, all of which have different traits. Almost all of the current, popular Marijuana seeds are hybrids, creating plants for every growing style, experience level and environment.
The genetic make-up of a plant will define its general characteristics and features. If a plant contains a higher proportion of Sativa genes, it will grow tall with long branches and ‘running’ colas. In general it will require at least 60 days to fully flower and mature, generally producing large harvest. Indica dominant strains remain shorter, often creating a bushy structure with multiple budding sites. Often more hardy, well suited to beginners, they have a shorter flowering period while returning a good yield.
Almost all Marijuana strains now available are hybrids. The genetics have been crossed and back-crossed so many times, pure land-race strains have almost been wiped out. This is not necessarily a bad thing, dogs were created and manipulated in much the same way, bred and inter-bred to create new breeds with different characteristics. Choosing the right Marijuana seeds to grow in Nevada is very similar to choosing the right dog, the fit should suit both parties.
The new laws on growing Marijuana in Nevada are clear, 12 plants maximum, 6 in flower at any one time, while the remaining 6 must be in either seedling or vegetative stages. Unless you wish to produce seeds, we recommend you buy feminized Marijuana seeds, as these are guaranteed to produce female-only plants and remove the need for sexing, allowing you to flower 6 plants, knowing they will all be 100% pure females, displaying buds with all the characteristics you desire.
.
Feminized Marijuana can be divided into two distinct types;
.
Feminized Marijuana Seeds.
Known simply as feminized Marijuana seeds, these are the type many people have heard of. They require two different stages in their lives, the first, vegetative stage is the growing phase when they increase their size and rooting structure quickly. The second is flowering, when they bud and mature over an average of 8-9 weeks and are ready to harvest. Feminized seeds contain no male chromosomes, devoid of these genes they can only produce female plants, ensuring that every plant you grow is a pure female with the traits and characteristics you desire.
If you are considering growing Marijuana in Nevada, feminized seeds are a great choice for the indoor grower. Marijuana plants begin to flower when they receive at least 12 hours of pure darkness per twenty-four hour period (a day) so all the indoor grower needs to do is reduce the lighting to a 12/12 regime and count the days until maturity. A perfect choice for indoor growers looking to get the very best yields and quality from their six legally flowering plants.
However, feminized seeds do cause problems for outdoor growers. The law states you must have outdoor Marijuana plants inside an enclosed area, such as a greenhouse. This can restrict their growth, as grown naturally outdoors, some Marijuana strains are capable of reaching more than 2 meters tall, creating long branches with an almost ‘tree-like’ structure. Secondly, the plants require twelve hours of continuous, uninterrupted darkness to flower, and with moon-light, street-light and other possible light sources, supplying your plants with pure darkness may prove difficult, lengthening the flowering period the plants need to achieve complete maturity.
Autoflowering Feminized Seeds
Like the feminized seeds above, autoflowering feminized seeds can only produce female plants, however, the main difference between the two is their flowering regimes. Where standard feminized seeds require a minimum of 12 hours of uninterrupted darkness to flower, autoflowering seeds grow and flower simultaneously, producing buds regardless of the number of hours of darkness the plant receives.
Very easy to grow, requiring very little knowledge or experience to produce a healthy harvest, autoflowering seeds are great for beginners and the more seasoned grower alike. Grown in pots or hydroponically in a greenhouse, these plants require an average of just eight weeks to fully grow and develop before harvest. With average daylight hours exceeding twelve hours per day from May through to mid-September, autoflowering Marijuana plants are a cheap and easy to grow to grow your own Cannabis through the Summer months.
Although autoflowering seeds can be planted and grown indoors they do require more hours of light per day than a standard flowering plant. Grown indoors under good environmental conditions the plants can produce good harvests of high quality weed, but lighting the area for at least 14 hours a day, 18 ideally, consumes more power, costing more money. Generally autoflowering seeds are grown during the late Spring and Summer to take advantage of the longer sunlight hours.
