Growing Cannabis In Oregon

Oregon is in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States, bordering the Pacific Ocean. With a total area covering just over ninety-eight thousand square miles, Oregon is the ninth largest state and with a population of just over four million people, the twenty-seventh most populated. Salem is the state’s capital city, while Portland, with a population of 632,000 is the largest and most populated city in Oregon.

Growing cannabis seeds in Oregon has been legal since July 2015 when the vote passed in November 2014 become law. All adults over the age of 21 can now legally grow their own recreational or medical cannabis for personal use. There are still some rules that must be adhered to, but in general, Oregon is a great place for marijuana lovers to live.

The rules governing growing cannabis seeds in Oregon are quite simple and straightforward, and with fairly harsh penalties for those breaking them, we advise the best way to grow marijuana in Oregon is legally! So what are the rules regarding cannabis growing in Oregon?

1. Only Grow At Your Residence.  Every Oregon adult has the right to grow cannabis in their own home or on their property. There are limits on how much cannabis you can store, which is up to a maximum of eight ounces, and no more than one ounce in public. Some cities have banned the public use of cannabis, but an individual’s right to grow and smoke in the privacy of their own home, remains.

2. A Maximum Of 4 Plants Only. This doesn’t mean four plants per person, but four plants per household, regardless of the number of adults over the age of 21 who reside there. Whether you live in a large rural house, or a city block apartment, you can still only legally grow four cannabis plants, but that’s four more than almost any other state. Growing between four to eight plants is a misdemeanor, punishable with six months jail-time and a fine of up to $2,500, while eight or more will see you go away for up to five years and face a fine that can amount to $125,000.

3. Landlords and Tenancies. Although every adult over the age of twenty-one has the right to grow up to four cannabis plants legally in their home, this doesn’t overrule tenancy agreements, or landlords own private rules. If you are renting a property the landlord is within his rights to deny you the opportunity of growing cannabis in, or on their property. There is very little you can do about this, except move, and check your next rental agreement carefully.

4. No Making Concentrates. Hash oil, wax, shatter, all these concentrates are difficult to make, and often dangerous. To protect people from themselves, and others, making home-made concentrates is forbidden and against the law. You can possess up to one ounce of concentrate legally at home, as long as you can prove legal purchase if necessary. If you can’t and there is no record of a purchase, the law will assume it’s home-made, and deal with you harshly. For amounts under 0.25 ounces up to six months in jail and a $2,500 fine. Over 0.25 ounces and you could be facing up to five years jail and fines of up to $125,000.
